How to Play Dead Zone Revive

How to play Dead Zone Revive right now: the free official launcher from deadzonegame.net, and how your account moves to the Steam version later on.

How do I play Dead Zone Revive?

As of August 3, 2026 there is exactly one route: the official launcher. Ruby Realms Studios provides a direct download with its own launcher on the official site, at deadzonegame.net/playnow. It is free, and no Steam purchase, key or invite is involved.

The Steam version is not available yet. It missed the review submission window and is expected roughly one to two weeks later — the details are on the Steam release page. Starting on the launcher costs you nothing in the long run, because every launcher connects to the same server.

The official website is deadzonegame.net, and the play page linked from it is deadzonegame.net/playnow. That page is where the direct download and launcher live.

Does this site host the Dead Zone Revive download?

No. This is an unofficial fan wiki. It hosts no installers, no patches, no mirrors and no game files of any kind, and it never will. The only two official channels are the website above and the Steam store page. If you find a copy of this game anywhere else, it did not come from the developer.

Before you install, it is worth a glance at the system requirements. They are genuinely low — Windows 10 or 11, a Core i3, 2 GB of RAM and 300 MB of storage at minimum.

How do I switch from the launcher to the Steam version?

Ruby Realms Studios has described the process directly, and it is short:

  1. Uninstall the official launcher.
  2. Install the Steam version once it appears on the store.
  3. Log in with the same account you have been using.

That is the whole procedure. There is no export step, no transfer ticket, no code to redeem. The same applies whenever the Epic Games Store version arrives, though no Epic date has been announced.

The reason the switch is that simple: all launchers use the same server. This is the developer’s own phrasing, stated in both the March 10 and July 29, 2026 announcements.

What it means
Your account One account across launcher, Steam and Epic
Your progress Stored server-side, not tied to the client you installed
Other players Everyone is on the same server regardless of launcher
Switching clients Uninstall one, install another, log in — nothing else

So the practical answer to “should I wait for Steam?” is no. Playing on the launcher today and moving to Steam in two weeks costs you nothing.

Do I need to pay to play Dead Zone Revive?

No. Steam lists Dead Zone Revive as Free To Play, and the launcher version is free as well. The project is a not-for-profit, fan-run revival made in agreement with Con Artist Games, the studio behind the original The Last Stand: Dead Zone.

The Steam store does list In-App Purchases among the game’s categories, but nothing has been announced about what those purchases include. The price page covers exactly what is known and what is not.

What do you actually do in Dead Zone Revive?

The official description is a zombie-apocalypse survival game where you lead a team in real-time missions, gather weapons, gear and supplies, and defend your base with tactical RPG and strategy gameplay. The official site breaks that into three systems:

  • Recruitment — take on survivors with specialised traits, and manage morale and hunger to keep your compound running.
  • Fortification — build defences, lay traps and repair barricades against nocturnal raids.
  • Scavenging — push into infected-dense districts for rare supplies and legendary loot.

Steam also lists Multi-player, PvP and Online PvP among the game’s categories, alongside Family Sharing and Save Anytime. The game is in English with full audio support.

Specific numbers — survivor caps, weapon stats, building tiers, map counts — have not been published by Ruby Realms Studios. This wiki does not carry figures from the original game either, because the revival was rebuilt from scratch by reverse-engineering the old server logic and its values may differ entirely.

Can I recover my old The Last Stand: Dead Zone account?

Not announced. The original game’s source code was lost, and Dead Zone Revive was reconstructed by reverse-engineering the old server logic rather than restored from the original systems. Ruby Realms Studios has not said whether old accounts, saves or purchases can be recovered in any form. Until it does, assume you are starting fresh.

Background on the original game and how this revival relates to it is on the legacy page.

Official community channels, both linked from the developer’s May 10, 2026 announcement:

  • The official forum at forum.deadzonegame.net
  • The official Discord server, linked from the site and the Steam announcements

Because the August 3 build is the second alpha release and bug fixing is ongoing, those channels are where patch notes and known issues surface first. More launch-day questions are collected in the FAQ.
