The Last Stand: Dead Zone Revival
How Dead Zone Revive relates to The Last Stand: Dead Zone — the agreement with Con Artist Games, the lost source code, and what has not been announced.
Dead Zone Revive exists because of an older game: The Last Stand: Dead Zone, made by Con Artist Games. This page covers exactly what Ruby Realms Studios has said about that relationship, and stops there.
That limit is deliberate. Plenty of pages will tell you when the original launched, when it shut down and why. None of that has been confirmed by either studio in the sources this wiki uses, so it is not stated here as fact.
What Has Been Confirmed
Section titled “What Has Been Confirmed”Three things, all from Ruby Realms Studios’ Steam Status Report of March 22, 2026:
| Point | Official position |
|---|---|
| The agreement | The revival is made in agreement with Con Artist Games |
| The rebuild | The original source code was lost to time; the team reverse-engineered the old game’s server logic |
| The status | It is a not-for-profit fan-run project |
Everything else on this page follows from those three statements.
Is Dead Zone Revive the same game as The Last Stand: Dead Zone?
It is a revival of it rather than a re-release. Dead Zone Revive is developed and published by Ruby Realms Studios, not Con Artist Games, and was rebuilt from reverse-engineered server logic because the original source code was lost.
Did Con Artist Games approve Dead Zone Revive?
Yes. Ruby Realms Studios describes the project as a not-for-profit fan-run project, in agreement with Con Artist Games, in its Steam Status Report published on March 22, 2026.
Why the Rebuild Took So Long
Section titled “Why the Rebuild Took So Long”Why did Dead Zone Revive have to be rebuilt from scratch?
Because the original source code was lost to time, in the studio’s own words. The team reconstructed the game by reverse-engineering the old game’s server logic, which it cited as one reason the schedule slipped.
The same announcement listed other reasons for the delay to August: the health and exam commitments of the main developer, and the studio’s own judgement that it could not secure a Steam greenlight with the game in the state it was then in. That is an unusually blunt thing for a developer to publish, and it is worth reading as a signal about how the project is being run — small team, no revenue, work done when it can be done.
It also explains why a revival is not simply a matter of switching old servers back on. Without the source, the behaviour of the original had to be inferred and reimplemented.
What This Means for Returning Players
Section titled “What This Means for Returning Players”Can I recover my old The Last Stand: Dead Zone account or progress?
Not announced. Ruby Realms Studios has published nothing about old accounts, survivors, compounds or purchases carrying into Dead Zone Revive. Treat any site claiming otherwise as unsourced.
Because the revival was rebuilt rather than restored, it should not be assumed that anything from the original carries across — but that assumption cuts both ways, and this wiki will not state it as a confirmed “no” either. If the studio publishes an answer, it will be recorded in news.
What is confirmed about accounts concerns the current game only: all launchers use the same server and the same account, so progress made through the official launcher carries to the Steam build when it arrives. That is covered on the Steam release page.
Reading the Revival Fairly
Section titled “Reading the Revival Fairly”A not-for-profit fan revival is not a studio sequel, and holding it to that standard misreads what it is. The practical consequences visible in official material:
- The game is free, with the Steam listing carrying an In-App Purchases category whose contents have not been announced.
- The August 3, 2026 build is described as the second release of the alpha version, not a finished product. See release date.
- Schedules have moved more than once, and the studio has explained why each time. See news.
If you played the original, the honest framing is that this is a reconstruction by people who wanted the game to exist again, with the original studio’s blessing — not a restoration of your old save.
